The IRBs review all proposed research projects involving human subjects. Thesis and dissertation topics dealing with human subjects must be submitted to the IRBs following colloquium approval. The IRBs must assure: the rights of subjects are protected, adequate and informed consent of the participant is obtained, participation is voluntary, and any possible benefit of research is commensurate with the risks involved. Approval must be obtained prior to data collection, and will not be granted retroactively.

We offer one of the largest databases of Thesis and Dissertation Research Topics available anywhere. Use the search box at the top of the page to enter a keyword on just about ANY TOPIC and you will see results immediately!Students can also electronically access thesis and dissertationtopics at other academic institutions. Students should startfamiliarizing themselves with computer databases as soon as they startgraduate school (Peters, 1997). Many databases, such as ERIC, EBSCO,Academic Search Premier, First Search, CSA Illumina, and PsycINFO withkey terms and phrases, should be free to students once they have paidtheir tuition and fees each semester. These databases are Web-basedlibraries for accessing historical and current resources, includingbooks, journal articles, symposium articles, documents, theses, anddissertations (McMilllan, 2008). Many of these databases displayabstracts of the articles, which is a quick and enjoyable way to get asense of the scope of a topic and an overview of previous research(Peters, 1997).Students often write to ask me if it is possible to "study" C. S. Lewis at BGSU at the graduate level. The answer is, of course, one can arrange to study most anything on an independent basis, and for thesis and dissertation topics you can usually pursue anything that can be justified as a legitimate research regimen and can demonstrate its value to the academic community. This is not a difficult case, in my view, in regard to the life and work of C. S. Lewis and his friends among the Inklings. However, if the question means whether there be lots of course work available, the answer is no. Only what I will occasionally offer can be likely anticipated. But I have chaired a number of senior, masters, and doctoral dissertations on Lewis over the past 25 years, and will no doubt do it some more. Among the best of these being Dr. Marvin Hinten's (Friends University, Wichita, KS) which is being published this year by Broadman and Holman.Dr. Orcutt always seems to have our individual goals in mind and makes her graduate students a priority. She always makes herself available if you need to meet with her about your thesis, dissertation, or a side project. She encourages students to generate their own ideas regarding thesis and dissertation topics, though she certainly guides students in the right direction in terms of project feasibility. Dr. Orcutt is timely with feedback and responses to questions, which is very helpful in a busy grad school environment. Overall, she is highly supportive, helpful, and honest.
