The first year of the MPhil and PhD is probationary. You need to demonstrate that you are capable of carrying out doctoral or master’s-level research at the University of Sydney and to satisfy the probationary requirements listed in the faculty resolutions and set by your supervisor. During this year students are expected to demonstrate the capacity to undertake research at a doctoral or master's degree level. This is done through the development, submission, presentation and assessment of a formal research proposal. The thesis research proposal is presented to your supervision committee. It is on the basis of your research proposal that your committee makes a recommendation concerning your continuing candidature.
The research proposal should be 7000 to 12000 words long (15-25 pages) and include the following:
sample thesis research proposal
A research proposal is an important part of a research paper. The research proposal is the comprehensive description of the research paper. It is developed to focus on the research aims and objective. It is made in order to provide overview of the whole research (Money & Remenyi 2004). Research Proposal is developed in order to get approval for the research to be conducted. It is important for pre strategic planning for different areas of research. It is made to analyze the different tools and techniques to be used for the research. According to Money & Remenyi (2004) research proposal determines what methodology would be used for a research and what would be the prior requirements of the research. Apart from this, research proposal also assist in determining the success of a research.First, when beginning with research proposals, theses should clearly identify an area of study that may eventually offer a niche that no one else has heretofore studied thoroughly, thus allowing the thesis writer to explore it and to add something new to the field. Students who have chosen a skeletal idea should then perform some preliminary research on it, conducting perhaps several weeks or a month of basic library research as time permits. Later, after the professors have approved the research proposals, theses can continue on with deeper, more focused research that may require traveling to other libraries or extensively using interlibrary loan services; conducting any primary research such as experiments, interviews, or surveys; and possibly creating the necessary equipment, such as computer programs, to handle the research data or to test the results of a certain scenario.Research proposal formats may vary from each other depending on the factors like magnitude of proposed research and complexity of the procedure. The size of the research proposal should be concise and in continuation that should include all aspects of a research paper (McNiff & Whitehead 2009). There are different books and database that can be used to find references and know more about research proposal. Different research related books are there in libraries and as well as on internet that can be used to collect information and develop a research proposal. As well, there are also several articles that are written on research proposal. "Research Methods in Education" by Wiersma William and "Design Your First Research Proposal" by R. Vithal and J. Jansen are some of relevant books that can be useful for getting relevant information about the research proposal. Apart from this, one can use database like Emerald insight, business source and oxford journals etc to get relevant information regarding research proposal.
